The Land That Time
Forgot... 1833 Stone Farm House |

The
locally quarried blue and grey, recently re-pointed stones
reveal both the age and original beauty of this substantial home
on an original plot of 99 acres. The large bank barn has both
new siding and roof. The house and barn are centrally located on
the property, surrounded by pastures and naturally cropped
no-till fields. The interior first floor living room of the home
was restored to reveal its original mahogany flooring; the
kitchen was modernized and re-floored with comfortable cork
flooring. An antique, very large Amish-style table in the large
country kitchen is negotiable. A laundry room, full downstairs
bath, and office were later additions. A modern two-car garage
with side entry was also added.
This home was built to comfortably house and raise the farm
owners family and could also have accommodated additional farm
hands. The two foot thickness of the stone walls provides a
sense of security and well-being. The modern double paned
windows provide efficient heat/cooling protection. The stand-up
full attic also has two rooms where meat and herbs were hung to
dry. The full basement has two original, historic walk-in
fireplaces, which were used to heat the house. A new modern oil
burning/hot water heating system was installed in 2000. The
plumbing and electrical infrastructure across the property has
been upgraded to code by the current owners. There is a cozy
family area next to the kitchen with a separate propane gas
heater that keeps the space toasty warm during the winter. The
view out of the family room looks up the hill at a small herd of
Cheviot Sheep making themselves at home in their year round
pasture.

There is a large front porch and formal living room entrance and
a smaller utility room entrance and porch. A new greenhouse sits
alongside the two car garage and provides a head start to
produce season. The front porch has a view toward a year-round
spring fed
pasture and the neighbors horse farm. From the top of the hill
overlooking the barn and house, there is a vista of Lancaster
County at its finest. Wooded forests, rolling hills, artful
agriculture and towering silos present a 360 degree panoramic
view.
There is ample farmland to supply the livestock with year round
food and to also consider producing crops for alternative energy
sources. The mill offers considerable flexibility to either
continue with traditional crop cleaning, cracking and milling.
It could also be remodeled to become bio-fuel distillery.
